The County of Stettler council has halted a previously approved $100,000-plus desludging contract for the Red Willow sewer lagoon, choosing instead to re-evaluate.

During the July 8 council meeting, Councillor Wade Hunter moved to rescind a decision passed unanimously just two weeks prior on June 24.

The original motion had directed county administration to award the lagoon desludging project to Red Deer County-based GFL Environmental Services Inc. for $102,650 plus GST, funded out of the operational budget.

The council unanimously supported a new motion introduced by Coun. Justin Stevens, instructing administration to deliver a detailed report on estimated operational costs and potential capital investments for ongoing maintenance at Red Willow.

The updated scope also asks municipal staff to include options and costs for constructing a dedicated septic receiving system at the lagoon site.

Administration is expected to bring the revised cost models and options to a future council meeting.
