Stettler town council is seeking quotes from a developer on a land parcel to tackle a shortage of local rental housing.
At its June 2 meeting, council voted 7-0 to authorize administration to issue a request for proposals for a 10-acre parcel of municipally owned land on the north side of Stettler.
The planned subdivision extending from 55 Ave was historically known as the “Alberta Piece”, due to its similar shape as the province from overhead.

According to town documents, the 10-acre parcel carries an assessed land value of $450,000.
However, preparing the site for construction will require an estimated $3 million investment to install water, sewer, and utilities.
The town will now look for a qualified developer to take over the site and oversee the construction phase.
The area was highlighted in council documents as an ideal area to place rental units, since a June 2024 housing assessment found a significant deficit in available rental properties around the Stettler area.
