A Stettler home gutted by fire more than a year ago is finally slated to come down.
Stettler Town Council voted 7-0 at its June 2 meeting to award a $15,750 demolition contract to Wally’s Backhoe Services Ltd. to clear the remains of a home on 48th Street.
Following the blaze in May 2025, the town discovered the homeowner was uninsured and lacked the financial means for the demolition.
A formal order served on Jan. 13 gave the owner 30 days to clear the lot, but the deadline passed with zero action taken.
The town received over a dozen bids for the project, ultimately utilizing its local preference policy to choose Wally’s over an outside bid of $14,694.75 from Timberwolf Skidsteer & Excavation.
While Timberwolf submitted the lowest tender, the policy allows a margin of up to 10 percent for local procurements.
The contract includes demolition, backfilling, lot leveling, and hazardous material removal.
An environmental assessment completed in March by ASK Environmental confirmed traces of lead paint on the building’s exterior.
