Press Release: By the Hon. Pierre Poilievre, MP for Battle River—Crowfoot and Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada
There is no better place to be in July than Alberta.
While the big cities get the headlines, it’s out here in towns like those here in Battle River-Crowfoot that put on the best celebrations.
Getting to connect with the amazing people of East Central Alberta brings me a renewed sense of pride as an Albertan and as a Canadian.
These festivities are a reminder of who we are: hardworking, generous, and proud. My most recent visit captured all of that.
There may be no better example of what makes Alberta special than a summer day in Three Hills.
I had the chance to see what small town Alberta does best: neighbours looking out for neighbours and celebrating together.
Three Hills may be small, but its pride, generosity and spirit are as big as they come.
Canada Day was truly memorable. It started off with breakfast in Trochu, where volunteers were flipping pancakes before the sun even rose.
From there it was onto Drumheller for the Canada Day parade, families lining every side of the town centre with flags in hand.
In Hanna, I had the honour of joining the flag raising ceremony alongside the brave firefighters of that community, a simple and powerful tribute to our nation.
Next up was Irma, and along with it the chance to talk to some of the people that make this country what it is alongside the volunteer fire department who show bravery at every call.
And we wrapped the day up at CFB Wainwright with our brave men and women who stand on guard for us all.
The festivities didn’t stop there. On the 2nd, we made our way to Camrose where I had the chance to meet with City Mayor Stasko and County Reeve Trautman.
We talked about the issues facing this region and others like it across the province, from affordability to infrastructure and how we can deliver results.
In Tofield, we visited the area where recent floods that struck the central corridor this past week.
I saw firsthand the damage left behind. And I want the families and property owners affected to know that you are not forgotten, and we will keep pushing for the support you need to rebuild.
Later, in Bashaw, I met with the firefighters who put their lives on the line for their neighbours, and visited some fine examples of small businesses who work everyday to keep their community strong.
Finally, we made our way down to Rochon Sands Provincial Park, a true summer staple for all Central Albertans. I had the chance to meet with Mayor Hiller, the Provincial Park manager and members of the local community.
Their tireless work has made the park a point of pride for generations of Albertans. Every time I get to be here in Battle River–Crowfoot I feel proud: every conversation, every parade, every mile driven reminds me why. The people of this riding are truly generous, resilient and some of the hardest working around.
Your former MP Damien Kurek told me years ago that this is God’s Country, and every time I get back here I am reminded why.
It’s an honour to work for you all.
