The Stettler Board of Trade is pointing local business owners toward federal layoff-prevention tools.
In its latest monthly newsletter, the board is highlighting the federal work-sharing program and worker retention grant to help businesses retain staff during temporary slowdowns.
The work-sharing program allows companies to temporarily reduce employee hours instead of layoffs, with eligible workers receiving employment insurance benefits for unworked days.
The worker retention grant allows employers with active work-sharing agreements to top-up the income of their employees, who in turn take training to develop their skills during non-work time.
Temporary special measures for businesses impacted by U.S. tariffs also remain in effect until March 31, 2027.
Local business owners can find application details through official Government of Canada portals or through the Stettler Board of Trade’s newsletter.
