The Town of Stettler and County of Stettler have designated October 2026 as Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month.

The joint proclamation signed Sept. 21 at the Town of Stettler office by Stettler Mayor Gord Lawlor and County Reeve Larry Clarke, calls on central Alberta communities to build understanding for those who have experienced pregnancy and infant loss.

“Pregnancy and infant loss is an experience that is often carried quietly, and increasing awareness can help reduce stigma and create opportunities for compassion, understanding and support,” the document states.

The declaration recognizes families affected by miscarriage, stillbirth, ectopic pregnancy, or the death of a child during delivery or shortly after birth.

It also marks Oct. 15 as Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day.

The proclamation notes that increasing public awareness helps ensure grieving parents, siblings, and grandparents feel supported rather than isolated in their grief.
