East Central Alberta Catholic Schools mourns with the people of Wainwright today. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, and members of the Canadian Armed Forces, and to everyone affected by this terrible tragedy.
CFB Wainwright is part of our community. Many of our students have a parent in uniform, and many of our staff count soldiers among their neighbours and friends. Their service is woven into daily life in our schools; their loss is felt by all of us.
We pray for the families who mourn someone they love, and for the soldiers who have lost colleagues and friends.
We ask the Lord to bring healing to those who were injured, to strengthen their families, and to give courage to the emergency responders and all who offered care and support in the first hours. We are grateful for their service.
In this time of sorrow, our faith reminds us that Christ walks with us during difficult times and is near to those who grieve.
We commend those who have died to the loving mercy of God, and ask the Holy Spirit, the Comforter, to console every grieving heart and to heal those who are recovering from their injuries.
We turn also to Mary, Our Lady of Sorrows, who stood at the foot of the Cross and knew the pain of loss. May her motherly intercession bring comfort to these families and draw them close to her Son.
Our schools will keep these families in our prayers. If your child is struggling, or if your family needs support in the days ahead, please call your school principal. We are committed to walking alongside you in faith, prayerfully accompanying your family in the love and hope of Christ.
Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen.
