Clearview Public Schools Press Release:
Each year, the third full week of October is recognized as National School Bus Safety Week. (October 19–23, 2026)
It is an opportunity for students, families, school staff, bus drivers, and motorists to work together to help keep students safe on and around school buses.
This year’s provincial theme is: Be Bright, Stand in Sight!
The message is simple: being visible matters. Students should wait where the bus driver can clearly see them and stay alert whenever they are near a school bus.
For many Clearview students, the school bus is an important part of their school day.
Whether students are travelling from a rural property, a community bus stop, or directly from school, safe habits make a difference.
Students: Be Safe Around the Bus
Students can help keep themselves and others safe by:
- Waiting in a safe place, back from the roadway.
- Staying where the bus driver can see them.
- Waiting until the bus has completely stopped before approaching.
- Listening to the bus driver and following their directions.
- Taking their time when getting on or off the bus.
- Moving a safe distance away from the bus after getting off.
- Never going back toward or underneath the bus to retrieve a dropped item. Tell the driver or another adult instead.
- Bright or reflective clothing can also help students be easier to see, particularly during darker mornings and evenings.
Motorists: Slow Down and Stay Alert
Drivers also play an important role in school bus safety. School buses make frequent stops throughout our communities and along rural roads.
When approaching a school bus, motorists should slow down, pay attention to its lights and signals, and watch carefully for children who may be nearby.
Flashing red lights are an important warning that students may be getting on or off the bus.
Give school buses plenty of space and be prepared to stop.
Families Can Help Too
Families can reinforce safe bus habits by talking with children about where to wait, how to approach the bus, and why it is important to follow the driver’s instructions.
This is especially important as daylight hours become shorter and morning conditions become darker through the fall and winter.
Thank You to Our Clearview Bus Drivers
School Bus Safety Week is also an opportunity to recognize the important work of Clearview’s bus drivers.
Our drivers do much more than get students from one place to another. They help provide a safe and welcoming start and end to the school day while navigating changing weather, road conditions, and rural routes across the division.
Thank you to our Transportation Services team and bus drivers for the care and attention you bring to this responsibility every day.
Be Bright. Stand in Sight. And help make every trip a safe one.
We All Belong — We All Succeed
