Stettler RCMP Press Release:

After continued investigation, Stettler RCMP have been unable to verify the veracity of the initial source of the threat to shoot students at the William E Hay School.

As such, the youth suspect has been released without charges.

Although police believe the initial reports received from concerned complainants were made in good faith, the initial source of the threat may not have been legitimate.

While RCMP continue the investigation, student safety remains our top priority.

Stettler RCMP arrest youth for uttering threats against school and students.

Stettler RCMP Arrest Youth For Uttering Threats Against School & Students

On April 15, 2026, at 10:15 p.m., Stettler RCMP received reports that a youth was sending threats via snapchat to shoot students at the William E Hay School in Stettler.

Officers quickly initiated an investigation and obtained evidence to support an arrest.

One youth suspect has been arrested and is in custody with charges pending for uttering threats.

The youth will be taken before a Justice of the Peace in order to determine future court dates and determine release status.

Although RCMP do not believe there is an ongoing risk to students and staff, the Stettler RCMP School Resource Officer and Detachment are currently engaged working with the school and out of an abundance of caution will have an ongoing police presence.
