Heartland Regional Fire Issues Fire Advisory For County of Stettler

Heartland Regional Fire Press Release:

EFFECTIVE: 08:00 MAY 1, 2026

As a result of the current ground and weather conditions and the projected forecast, the County of Stettler is moving to a FIRE ADVISORY effective 08:00 on May 1, 2026. 

The following are the limitations on burning at this time:

1. NEW PERMITS will be issued for a 5-day period for small brush piles (no larger than 3M (10 feet) wide by 2M (6 feet 6 inches) high. Windrows and large brush piles are prohibited while the fire advisory is in effect.

2. ALLOWS ESSENTIAL BURNING in burning barrels that are constructed of non-combustible material that have a tight-fitting metal mesh screen with openings not larger than 13 mm;

3. ALLOWS backyard fire pits, and safe wood campfires contained by non-combustible material with a metal mesh screen with openings no larger than 13 mm. Portable propane fire pits, gas or propane stoves and barbecues.

4. Abide by the requirements of the municipal by-laws, Forest and Prairie Protection Act and the Substance Release Regulation.

5. Winds must be less than 10km per hour, and one adult must be in attendance.

6. Consideration must be given to neighbours to avoid physical discomfort as a result of burning.

This FIRE ADVISORY does not apply to:

• Fires, which are contained within cooking and heating appliances and which are fueled by propane, natural gas or wood pellets

• Fires contained within industrial facilities for operational purposes

• Approved Gas/Propane fueled fire pits/stoves/barbecues

• Catalytic or infrared-style heaters

Residents are reminded that all brush piles and/or permitted debris piles must be buried under ground and covered with soil when burning is complete to ensure the fire cannot re-kindle.

Conditions will be monitored. We will update the public on any changes.

This FIRE ADVISORY will remain in effect until further notice.
