Municipal politicians from the Town and County of Stettler have joined forces to kick off Seniors Week celebrations.
Stettler Mayor Gord Lawlor and County Reeve Larry Clarke signed a declaration at Paragon Place on May 19, setting the stage for a week of regional activities running from June 1-5.
This year, elected officials from both councils will visit local senior facilities and distribute fruit trays.
Town councillors will host a series of meet-and-greets at Heart Haven, Willow Creek, and Points West Living.
Meanwhile, county councillors are scheduled to visit seniors in Botha, Byemoor, Big Valley, Donalda, and Erskine.
In addition to the visits, care packages will also be put together with help from the Stettler Public Library.
Organizers plan to assemble 250 activity bags this year, filled with puzzle books, crafts, personal care products, and treats.
The initiative began during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 through a one-time grant and was maintained in subsequent years by a $1,000 commitment from the town.
