The mayor of Big Valley has resigned from his position, according to the village’s social media account.

Clark German tendered his resignation from the village council effective June 15, leaving the community with a vacant seat on its three-member governing body.

Under the province’s rules for villages, citizens vote directly for council members, who then vote internally to select a mayor and deputy mayor.

A reason for the departure was not given, but in a public statement, the Village of Big Valley expressed gratitude for his service.

“Thank you for all that you did while in this role, Clark,” the village administration statement read. “Your commitment to Big Valley is greatly appreciated and you’ll be missed.”

German’s departure means local voters will head to the polls to elect a new councillor.

Remaining council members, including Deputy Mayor Gail Knudson and Coun. Skyla Attfield, are expected to map out the next steps for a local by-election.

Details will be finalized at a special council meeting that has been called for June 22 at 10 A.M.
