The Town of Stettler officially introduced its new in-house economic development officer during their council meeting on Oct. 6.

Alexandra Ross takes on the newly created role bringing more than 20 years of experience across business investment, tourism, and marketing.

Ross outlined her background and strategic goals to council, expressing enthusiasm for expanding the town’s economic profile.

The appointment comes six months after town council voted in March to reallocate municipal funding away from the Stettler Regional Board of Trade to fund a dedicated municipal economic development officer.

The funding shift reduced the Town of Stettler’s allocation to the BOT by $60,000 in the 2026 operating budget, with a further reduction of $120,000 slated for 2027.

Under the restructuring, the BOT will transition into an independent organization focused on community initiatives such as shop-local campaigns, while the Town of Stettler assumes direct responsibility for economic & industry development.

Additionally, members of town council traveled to Calgary over the previous weekend to deliver a 30-minute presentation at the Calgary Franchise & Expo Show to highlight Stettler as a regional hub to prospective developers.
