Premier Danielle Smith reaffirmed her government’s commitment to seniors’ care at the Alberta Seniors & Community Housing Association (ASCHA) annual convention.
The “Home for Housing” event was held at the Edmonton Convention Centre from April 13 to 15.
In a post to social media Smith stated “With more than one million seniors expected in the years ahead, our government is committing to expanding affordable housing, increasing continuing care spaces, and supporting seniors so they can stay in their communities.”
The session featured a local connection for the Stettler region, as the Premier’s talk was hosted by Stettler County Councillor James Nibourg, who also serves as President of the ASCHA board.
ASCHA, which represents around 80 per cent of the province’s seniors & community housing providers, serves as the advocacy body for a sector providing housing to over 100,000 Albertans.
The three-day convention drew more than 300 delegates, ranging from board members to private developers.
The provincial government has faced increasing pressure to address housing shortages as Alberta’s population continues to grow.
