Donalda residents gathered in mid-July to review plans for a proposed water reservoir and truck fill facility.

The July 14 information session, hosted by the County of Stettler and the Shirley McClellan Regional Water Services Commission (SMRWSC), offered community members a look at details ahead of municipal zoning decisions set for this month.

Donalda village council is considering a land-use amendment to rezone a 1.46-acre parcel north of Township Road 42-0 and west of Railway Avenue.

Area shaded in black noted as the location of a proposed water reservoir and truck fill station in Donalda. The area is shown in the drawing is located north of Township Road 42-0 and west of Railway Avenue.

Village council previously authorized Mayor Shaleah Fox and the chief administrative officer to sign a purchase and sale agreement for the site during a special meeting on May 29.

The proposed facility would operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, using a central account system managed through the County of Stettler.

Users receive a PIN granting access to all participating regional truck fills, with usage billed on a quarterly basis.

In addition to heavy-truck access, the facility will feature a 18 L bottle-fill station.

Addressing community concerns about potential damage to the village’s aging distribution network, officials noted that water pressure will be introduced gradually in stages.

A public hearing on the rezoning bylaw is scheduled for Aug. 18 at 7 p.m. in the Donalda Council Chambers before council proceeds to second and third readings.
