The County of Stettler has approved $8,300 in community grants through the second round of their annual community investment program.
Council reviewed 10 applications at its June 10 meeting totalling $24,800, from the remaining $10,000 in the CIP’s annual budget.
The Stettler Town and Country Museum received $1,800 for the upcoming Heritage Expo, while the Big Valley Agricultural Society was granted $2,000 for a street festival this summer.
The Erskine Social Recreational Society secured $1,500 for its Floats and Flicks event, while the Red Willow Agricultural Society received $1,000 for its Father’s Day Fair.
In the annual support stream, council funded a $1,500 request for the Big Valley Bust Out Rodeo and $500 for the Stettler Junior and High School Rodeo.
Multiple Requests Denied
Meanwhile, a $2,500 request from the Battle River School Division to help fund a provincial volleyball tournament in Bashaw was denied.
A $1,000 request from Sharebear Playschool for a children’s kitchen space was also denied, as was a late application from the Stettler Friends of the Library for its Culture Days event.
Program guidelines state that late or incomplete applications will not be reviewed.
The community investment program is split into two funding streams, for both annual and new events.
The next application deadline for community groups to take part in the community investment program is Dec. 31.
Stettler History Book Receives Partial Grant
A debate also centered on a $10,000 request from the Stettler and District History Book committee to publish their historical volumes.
While the council ultimately denied the group money from the CIP fund, the group did not leave empty-handed.
Reeve Larry Clarke introduced a motion to grant the history book project $1,000 out of the county’s rural development fund instead.
The motion passed bringing total County of Stettler contributions to the project to $5,000 following a prior $4,000 allocation.
