Clearview Public Schools has voted to postpone its formal review of the Byemoor School until the 2026-27 school year.
The decision was made by trustees during a special board meeting on June 2, following discussions regarding the future of junior high programming at the school.
In May, trustees passed a motion to begin a formal review of Grade 7 to 9 programming after enrollment projections showed the student population falling below the 35 student threshold.
To offset an anticipated $260,000 funding shortfall without removing grades, Byemoor School’s teaching staff will be reduced to three positions for the upcoming school year.
Trustees also passed a notice of motion requesting a feasibility study on implementing a four-day school week at Byemoor School.
School administration has been directed to prepare a report for the board’s upcoming June 25 meeting, outlining the potential impacts of a condensed schedule on student learning, staffing and operations.
Clearview trustees are also continuing to advocate for changes to how Alberta funds its smallest schools.
Clearview Trustee Guy Schofer directly addressed Alberta’s Minister of Education regarding rural funding models during the Alberta School Boards Association (ASBA) meeting on June 1.
