With the October 19, 2026, referendum approaching, Elections Alberta is looking for more people to work as Election Officers across Drumheller-Stettler.
The largest need is for people to help count ballots. More than 100 workers are needed over two days of counting in Stettler, with another 50 to 100 needed in the Drumheller area.
“We need a lot of people to help with the count in both Stettler and Drumheller,” said Shannon Forrester, Returning Officer for Drumheller-Stettler.
“These are paid positions, training is provided, and there are opportunities for people who may not be available to work during the day.”
Election Day workers are also needed in communities across the electoral division.
Elections Alberta is seeking approximately five to 10 workers in each of Provost, Coronation, Brownfield, Altario, New Brigden, and Acadia Valley.
Available positions include voting officers, record clerks, and ballot box clerks, with ballot box clerks required throughout Drumheller-Stettler.
“This is a large rural area, and we need local people in communities across the electoral division,” said Forrester. “Whether you can work on Election Day or help with the count, there are many ways to get involved.”
Young people aged 16 and older can apply for several Election Officer positions, including paid ballot-counting roles. Some positions require applicants to be at least 18 years old.
“For anyone looking for some short-term paid work this fall, we’d really encourage you to take a look at the available positions,” said Forrester.
“You don’t need previous election experience, and you’ll be helping make sure the referendum runs smoothly in your community.”
Local nonprofits, sports teams, school groups, and other community organizations can also participate through Elections Alberta’s Group Election Worker Program.
Similar to working a casino fundraiser, participating groups can provide workers for referendum shifts, with the fees earned from those shifts going to the organization.
Anyone interested in paid work during the October 19, 2026, referendum is encouraged to apply as soon as possible through Elections Alberta.
