Updated: 1:00 p.m. – April 16, 2026:

RCMP have arrested a youth following a late-night shooting threat made against students at the Wm. E. Hay School in Stettler.

Police were called late Wednesday evening after reports surfaced of a suspect threatening to shoot students on Snapchat.

One youth remains in custody with charges pending for uttering threats. The identity of the accused is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Classes at both the high school & Stettler Elementary School are proceeding today, though Clearview Public Schools has implemented “secured entrance” protocols at both schoold.

“Out of an abundance of caution, additional safety measures are in place today… including secured entrances and the presence of staff and RCMP at entry points,” the school division said in a statement.

The RCMP say they do not believe there is a continued threat to staff or students, but a police presence will remain at the schools throughout the day.

The suspect is expected to appear before a justice of the peace to determine whether they will be released pending a court date.
